341ml bottle, day 19 of the 2016 Seasons Greetings holiday mixer from Parallel 49 and Central City - I almost missed this one as being a new offering, until I read the side label blurb. Seems like a combination of their regular Filthy Dirty IPA, and their grapefruit radler.
This beer pours a murky, dark apricot amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and yet chunky ecru head, which leaves a bit of streaky and sudsy lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.
It smells of pungent pink and white grapefruit flesh, bready and crackery caramel malt, some hard water flintiness, a hint of earthy yeastiness, and further leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is semi-sweet Texas ruby red grapefruit, bready and doughy caramel malt, additional candied orange and lemon citrus notes, some wet stone paths after the rain, and more herbal, grassy, and resinous pine hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite low-key in its bored-looking frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and fruit juice smooth, with a minor airy creaminess arising as things warm up a bit. It finishes on the sweet side, but tempered just enough by the big grapefruit complexity.
Overall - yeah, they just up and mixed some Tricycle Radler into their Filthy Dirty IPA, which lowers the ABV maybe a smidge, and renders this one an appearance that would best all those ATL-NE turbidity-riddled brews. And speaking of those 7 points of wowee sauce - ain't so sign of them in the least, which makes for a nice, fresh, seasonal palate-cleanser, of sorts.
