Fruity + snappy. No malts for balance, though. Misses a step somewhere.

341ml bottle, part of this year's (Vol. 4) Brews Brothers mixed 12 pack, the theme being 'New Wave'. A collaboration with Boombox Brewing, a fellow Vancouver operation. For the name, I presume that they're referencing the Tears for Fears rendition of the song.

This beer pours a mostly clear, medium golden yellow colour, with three chubby fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat shiny off-white head, which leaves some scattered splotchy lace around the glass as it lazily sinks out of sight.

It smells of dank pine resin, some mixed domestic citrus rind, further tropical fruity notes, gritty and grainy pale malt, some hard water flintiness, and more leafy, weedy, and grassy green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, some white grapefruit, orange, and lemon peel, a damp minerality, and more weedy, grassy, and mildly dank resinous verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-gripping frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with a nice airy creaminess evolving as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes off-dry, the muted malt, blended fruitiness, and fading forest floor detritus essences landing as such.

Overall - this comes across as a very enjoyable version of the style, with a few none-too-subtle nods to merry old (New) England. No sign of the extra 2 points of boozy-booze, which makes for an affable drinkability. Great stuff!
