Cloudy tan-straw color. Poured a short head that combined into larger bubbles and then dropped down to a patchy skiff in half a minute. Too cloudy to see any bubbles rising. Left tiny patches of lacing that almost looked like writing.
Strong citrus fruit with lighter stone fruit. There is a very faint coconut milk scent. Light barnyard provides a nice counterpoint. Slightly sweet. Swirling the glass kicks up a very strong citrus followed by a stronger barnyard.
Immediate flavor blend of citrus, vegetal hops, and stone fruit. The vegetal hop flavor expands into some other mild herbs; perhaps basil, rosemary, and thyme. Slightly sweet, but tending more towards a tangy tart. Medium bitters that are well balanced against the overall flavor mix. The aftertaste is a quick reminder of the barnyard in the scent, and then the entire flavor mix slowly fades away.
Moderate tongue tingling as it grows to a coarse foam. Light astringency after swallowing.
One of four IPAs in their 2020 Pic-A-Hop package showcasing individual hops. This is a great idea. Unfortunately there is no information on the brewer's web site about this, and web searches suggest they have been doing this for a couple of years at least. Each IPA has a different ABV, so the recipes must be different. I would have made them identical with the exception of the hops.
This one is my favorite of the four. The flavor is complex and much stronger than the others. Overall this is a good example of what a standard ale can achieve. I think I could give this to friends who are not beer drinkers.
