Got on trade. Thx westcoast! Served at 9deg C in a tulip. A new year's day opening nearly 1 full year after the best after date of Jan.30/15.

A- Opens well and pours a 1" high brown head that films out within 3mins or so. Very dark brown colour.

S- Nice bourbon here.

T- Slight bourbon and some maple. Nice overall as nothing sticks out at you but with BBA brews I love the bourbon sticking out at you! Has a nice sweet edge to it. Low on the chocolate and coffee scale.

M- Creamy but dry.

O- Very good overall blend. Nothing special but nothing bad. If I see it again I would buy it. The flavors have blended completely together now.

Food Pairing

This rather good brew went very well with...... Roasted leg of lamb with root veggies. Spice the way you like it but I like it with cinnamon and such from a traditional French recipe.

very good beer, comes in 650ml bombers, and with 11.5% alcohol, thats actually more alcohol than 6 shots of tequila! this beer goes down smooth, but kicks you on your ass when youre not looking. dont worry, hes there ready to help you get back up again!

22oz bottle into a snifter
Best AFTER Jan 31st 2015 (but Im not that patient)

Thanks to Finatic for sending this one over via trade!

A: Pours an opaque black with less than 1/2 a fingers width of tan colored head which dissipates down quickly and leaves a few small patches of lacing.

S: Roasted malt, maple syrup, dark chocolate, bourbon notes with oaky vanilla and a hint of booze, subtle dark fruits. Very nice.

T: The first flavors I get are roasted malt and cardboard, with coffee notes on the back end. I then get bourbon flavors, with a nice oaky component. Theres some bitterness, a bit of semi-sweet bakers chocolate, and a hint of balancing booze.

M/D: Full bodied but could be thicker, carbonation moderate, ABV is very well masked, drinkability is average.

O: Overall, I really liked this one. Nothing stood out as exceptional, but far above average in almost every aspect. I really liked both the maple and bourbon notes that were present in the aroma, although I would have liked to them both to be more prominent in the taste. Still very good though, and definitely worth a try. Thanks Fin!

Chocolate black with the odd trailer and violet-tan film.
Meaty, sweet and smoky nose - beef jerky, brown sugar, and a bit of maple.
Treacle, Christmas cake, bourbon-BBQ sauce, soy, big char and straight IBU bitter end.
Meat crust (i.e. melanoidin) and sugar finish and tight boozy linger.
Medium to full, chewy, clingy.

Smooth, big and easy. The maple doesn't show for much, and the wood is very mellow. Very umami - no big chocolate or coffee notes.

A winter sipper.

Bottle from Rutager this past summer. Thanks for all the cool stuff man!

From a 750 into a snifter
IBU: 55
Bourbon maple stout
Collaboration with Gigantic Brewing Company

APPEARANCE: A clear dark brown pour yields a 1½ finger, medium looking, fluffy, tan head with very good retention. Black body, clear, with medium levels of carbonation evident. Head fades to a full foam wisp and ring. A splotchy wisp and ring remain leaving some dots of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Bourbon, oak, some sweet cream, caramel and light maple notes on the nose. The maple links well to coconut and caramel from the bourbon barrels. Milder nose for the style, but okay.

TASTE: Light flavors of bourbon and roasted grains up front. Caramel sweetness with sweet cream through the middle into a medium but lingering finish of bourbon, oak, cream, roasted, bitter chocolate and some sweet maple sugars. Burnt grain and bitter chocolate balance the sweet barrel and maple flavors. Good after the swallow and well balanced with a touch of alcohol. Decent enough.

PALATE: Medium-full body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy and smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes relatively sticky on the palate. Some heat lingers. Some good weight and solid all around.

OVERALL: This is alright. Definitely more interesting than their whisky barrel aged stout, though that isn't saying a whole lot. The nose and flavor on this one just seems to be somewhat milder overall, especially for a style that is known for its boldness and impressiveness. That said, this is an interesting beer and I would be happy to try another batch of this in the future. There's a lot of potential here. Thanks again Rutager. Look forward to doing it again soon!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of sweet residual sugar notes with some black chocolate notes with some bourbon, wood and some vanilla notes. Taste is also dominated by black chocolates notes with some bourbon and some wood notes and vanilla. Body is quite full with good carbonation and some warming alcohol notes. Good beer but a bit too much residual sugar for my taste.

Thanks to Boozecamel for this one.

Poured from a 650ml. bottle, no freshness info.

Appearance: Totally dark body, thick mousse-like foam with pretty good retention.

Smell: Sugary maple, mild roasted notes, whiffs of bourbon.

Taste: Burnt chocolate a bit, woody notes, bourbon is light, bit vinous, figs and raisins, mild candied feel.

Mouthfeel: Easily glides down next to no heat, bit viscous.

Overall: Flavor was a bit of a let down as it felt too mellow for the style. Still enjoyed it but not as much as i would have hoped.

A: Velvet black brown on the pour with a deep brown espresso hue when held to the light. Topped with a burnt oak brown head which is thick, foamy and lingering.

S: Bourbon with sweet smooth dark malts together with hints of vanilla and dark dried cherries. Scent of the bourbon barrel is rich with smokey charred oak, wet wood, earthiness and fresh cut tobacco.

T: The taste follows the scent but is even better. Bold bourbon flavours that feature charred wood, dark sweet malts and dark smokey chocolate notes. Malts hold on the palette like a thin layer of velvet while sweetness envelopes. Hints of fresh tobacco and alcohol esters on the finish.

M: Warm alcohol esters and minimal pin pricks of carbonation. The carbonation helps break the alcohol esters from the brew with tiny pops of bourbon breaking free and warming the tongue...this is Willy Wonka territory. Thick and syrupy.

O: A bourbon forward offering full rich, smooth and smokey flavours backlit with a sweet malty notes. Alcohol is incredibly well hidden and dangerous at 11.5%. The sweetness of the maple syrup is present but the flavour is masked by the bourbon notes. An incredibly smooth offering and the best P49 I've had so far.
