a highly enjoyable old ale, with dense malt flavors beyond the ordinary, and a curious fruity spice cake flavor in the middle that really beings the start and finish together in a cool new way. deep amber color with some haze and a lazy off white head on it. the nose is dried fruit and caramel malt with a bold english ale yeast strain. dried cherry and raisin and even plum come to mind, with the grain sweetness being relatively subdued. i taste a little of the booze at first sip, but its quickly overtaken by an onrushing spice thing, not hot or intense or anything, but subtle, like clove or ginger or something in the background there, probably coming out of the grain. it makes this different, and the finish is on the hoppy side for the style. a beautifully made beer, and one of the few old ales i could have more than one of in a session. very well done, these guys have come a long way.
