My first beer from cropton bought from the real ale shop in richmond. The apperance is a nutty brown and the taste is quite nutty aswell with a hint of sweetness. This a very good session and you should try, if you like a beer that is easy to drink and is a good all rounder.

This pours a golden amber color with an off-white head and some small “floaties” mixed throughout. The scent is bitter smelling with a few hints of sour. It tastes kind of bitter and sour at the same time. It has an average volume with a slightly better than average taste. I kind of have to wonder how old this beer really is with the lack of recent reviews.

Apparently this beer was retired, but I guess it's back, and good thing it is. This was phenomenal. Got this at Bier Palais in Belgium a few weeks back.

From a 500ml bottle into a pint glass.

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, fluffy, off-white head with very good retention. Brunt orange or mahogany with medium levels of carbonation. Bigger bubbles here. Head slowly recedes to a thick cap and sticks to the sides. Good wisp remains leaving lots of nice lacing down the glass. Looks great.

SMELL: Pale malts with a nice butterscotch and caramel notes. Some great floral aromas as well. Bolder for the style for sure.

TASTE: Pale malts and caramel butterscotch flavors up front. Some grainy malts through the middle into a caramel sweet and floral hop bitter finish. Flavorful and lingering aftertaste of sweet caramel and bitter floral hops is superb. Very flavorful with just the right amount of bitterness. Great stuff.

PALATE: Medium-full body and creamy smooth on the palate. Medium carbonation, goes down smooth and finishes quite dry on the palate. Very full, smooth and creamy.

OVERALL: Phenomenal stuff. This is a great bitter that everyone who’s a fan of the style should get to try. Great look and feel, with way more on the nose and palate than a beer of this ABV has the right to have. Reminded me again of how good some English beer can be. Highly recommended.

Free 500ml bottle as part of brewery tour:
A clear orange-amber with a pinky sized, foamy white head that holds very well.

Sweets with lots of butterscotch initially, along with some sweet malts and a bit of caramel too. There is some bitterness and a hint of vanilla to with a touch of hops.

Sweet with butterscotch and some sweeter malts making an appearance here as well. There is some caramel and toffee with a little bread and sugar. The taste is rounded off with some floral flavours and a little bitterness.

Smooth & sweet with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Quite creamy and no alcohol in the taste, a really good beer that would be an excellent session offering.

An excellent beer and one that surprised me in just how good it proved to be. I wasn't expecting much but this will be a beer that I'll definitely be on the look out for if it is available north of the border. A must try and one of the best English bitters I have ever tried.
