It’s not uncommon to find Pacific Crest Trail hikers at Crux enjoying a well-deserved day off from the grueling 2,600-mile hike. The trail runs just outside of Bend along the crest of the Cascades. They come to enjoy great company, a rewarding pint and the expansive view of the mountains they’ve been traversing. PCT is not your typical porter— it’s for explorers. You’ll discover robust flavors driven by a roasted and chocolate malt bill paid off with refreshing day-in and day-out drinkability. Ahhh…

One of the few beers from Crux that I'm not a big fan of. Pours a dark chocolate brown color with a medium head. Aroma is mild chocolate and roasty malt with a slight sweetness. A watery mouthfeel makes it taste that it is watered down. It might be better with a little more body. It tastes more like a weak Guiness. Not a bad beer, but not great either. Rated 2-5-2024

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace. It smelled of chocolate, toffee, caramel and some pine. Sweet chocolate, toffee and caramel with a mild bitterness.

Watery rubbish. This beer suffers from a severe identity crisis. If it weren't for the label and the color, it would be nearly impossible to determine the style. Not inclined to try their other beers anytime soon.

Very dark, near black in color, with a huge pile of beige foam in the tall IPA glass. Frothy on th tongue with a pleasing watery body. Roasted grain aroma. Taste is slightly sweet with some caramel along with the charred malt and roasted barley. Really drinkable and one of the better Porters I've had lately. From the 12 oz can dated 12/22/22. Purchased at Elizabeth Station.

Draft at PreFunk-Nampa. Smooth and creamy pour, dark brown with small silky head, lots of lacing. Very mild aroma of roast grains and chocolate. Taste picks up on the chocolate, keeps a small bitter bite at the back. Nice velvety mouth feel.

one of their more popular beers, cannot believe i am not reviewing it until now. its a staple brand in the style in the northwest, and for good reason, its a shade lighter than many others, but doesnt lack in flavor at all, its got a nice low alcohol content and is exceptionally well made, as most crux beers are, i really enjoyed my pint yesterday, a good session type dark beer. its incredibly creamy headed, somewhat more pale foam on this than i usually expect in a beer thats this dark, nice contrast, gorgeous lace, long retention, high shine, good looking brew. nice nose and taste to this, very much similar to my senses, nutty and a touch sweet on the middle malt, not overly roasty and without the usual deep grain bitterness, its smoother than that, mellower, still well past a brown ale, but noticeably scaled back on the darkest elements. i still get a warming espresso aspect which adds nice depth, and an almost hazelnut hint. frothy feeling to me, not too much carbonation but a lively and distinctive mouthfeel for a porter. relatively clean on the finish and the little bit of deep malt linger is very pleasant. a very approachable and delicious porter, definitely something i could have a number of pints of. very nice take on the style.

12oz CANNED ON 02/07/20 (about 4 months ago) poured into a Spiegelau stout glass at fridge temp, 5.5% ABV 35 IBU. The beer pours dense black with medium brown highlights and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is mild with roasty malts and baker's chocolate. The taste is bittersweet chocolate, mild ashy roasted malt and a hint of tangy bite. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with just less than medium carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, good. Thanks @beertunes!

Very solid Porter! Had on tap on a beautiful sunset evening with our new friend Patty. Reviewing this an hour after the fact. All I remember is this was a good solid Porter.

What an amazing place! Fun for the whole family.... Seriously!
