a regal and special porter, the first of these banished series beers that i have i had i think that isnt a sour or wild type. this is a rich and heavenly dark silky chocolate forward ale with the perfect amount of fine bourbon on it, a standout in a fantastic beer lineup for me! the bottle lists it as number 12 in the series, and tells me its been aged six months in the whiskey barrels. its deep shiny brown from the bottle with a lathery deep tan head and long legs on the edges of the glass. the aroma here is burnt barley, bakers chocolate, toffee sweetness, and a vanilla maple complex from the whiskey, sweet corny bourbon with a lot of wood to it, wet tobacco and licorice nuances too. the flavor is all of this, wrapped warmly and tightly in the charred oak, cozy and rich and wintery and warming. i like it not being insanely strong for what it is, it lets other ingredients have their moment. the whiskey is robust and delicious in here, i get faint cinnamon and milk chocolate too, caramelized malts, and brittle of some kind. its soothing in texture going down, fancy feeling to me, and with such an intense blend of flavors, driven by the barrel and the dark malts, just fantastic depth and refinement. an exemplary barrel aged porter, i wish i could get my hands on some more of this one. some of the best beer ive had from crux from a quality standpoint...
