Availability: specialty, brewed exclusively for both Blue Smoke locations in Manhattan
Description: When one thinks refreshing and easy-drinking, look no further than that delectable beer produced in Cologne, Germany… and that is, of course, the light and flavorful Kölsch.
And when Blue Smoke, one of the pre-eminent BBQ restaurants in New York City, asks you to brew a beer exclusively for them… well, you can’t get the word “yes” out of your mouth fast enough.
Meet “East Kölsch”, our Kölsch that is available only at the 2 NYC Blue Smoke Restaurants. Kölsch is the ale version of Pilsner, which means it’s light, easy-drinking, and bursting with flavor. Made with all German hops and malt, the beautiful golden color and mild bitter finish of East Kölsch is reminiscent of the brews being made throughout Cologne.

Had on tap. Pours clear, gold in color. Taste is honey and grass. Medium light bodied, sweet with moderate carbonation. Nice, clean, and refreshing for the style. Really impressed with this one.

Mini-growler from the brewery.
Brilliantly clear, pale yellow hue, thin but staying white lacing. Smells of fresh baked crackers, yeast, floral hop and fresh grass clippings. Solid crispness, lighter bodied though enough body to keep it interesting. Full on breadiness, pretty much a full loaf on my palate. Hint of hop bitterness with floral and spicy undertones. Yeast flavor lingering in the finish, with a ghost like diacetyl and perhaps a faintness of sulfur.
Quite complex for a smaller and very pale brew, drinkable to boot.
