Adjuncts: Salt, Dried Orange Slices, Demerara Sugar, Cocoa Nibs from Fruition Chocolate
Description: Introducing the newest member of the Newburgh Brewing family, "Chocolate Fruition Gose": our 5.7% ABV Gose that was brewed with salt & dried orange slices, with a generous helping of cocoa nibs added after fermentation. And the "Fruition" is because the cocoa nibs were generously provided by Fruition Chocolate, a chocolate-maker here in the Hudson Valley. The aroma of Chocolate Fruition is all chocolate... upon the first sip, you'll be greeted by tart notes reminiscent of nectarines & plums. The finish is earthy dark chocolate with a subtle hint of salt. Refreshing, golden in color, and medium in body, this is not your standard chocolate beer. But we think you'll thoroughly enjoy this unique take on the beautiful marriage of chocolate & beer.

16oz brown sample bottle from the brewery.
Slightly hazed pale golden hue, amazing showing of lace. Nose is very unique ... chocolate bitterness, faint brine, orange pith, esters, & grain husk. I can taste the orange slices right away with a bit of tartness, then the cocoa nibs, with the salt and the dry graininess in the finish. This brewery does not stop putting on a show, great job at throwing different ingredients at this brew yet still keeping within the Gose style.

Had this on tap last night for the first time up at the Cloverleaf. I never had a beer from Newburgh before and I haven't had a lot of beers in this style either. It sounded so intriguing that I had to give it a go and it was pleasantly surprising and easy to drink as well. While not overly salty or sour, it was true to form as the chocolate never felt like a gimmick at all!
This had a nice faded gold hue to it that was cloudy as well. Not a lot of head and even less lacing as this beer was thin when it came to the bubbles and lacing. Nice medium mouthfeel to it which was surprising given the lack of any true aroma. Just some tartness came off of when I gave this a whiff and once I gave it a taste, the true nature of this emerged. Lots of white chocolate which was reinforced by a strong, subtle sour undertone. The dried orange wasn't overt and gave this a mellow citrus undertone that complemented the chocolate and the nature of this beer nicely. More full than I though, it almost felt like there was wheat in here although the sugar removed any idea of that being the case.
While not a session beer, it would have been easy to down a few of these in a sitting. Some examples of this style tend to overdo the sweet and sour aspects but the tartness of this added a nice touch that kept this at a happy medium. With something like this being to tasty and unassuming, how could you not give it a go? There's nothing no tap out there quite like this!

If you were to somehow turn an orange flavored Tootsies Pop into a beer, this is what it would taste like. Chocolate on the nose, chocolate and orange taste with a slight tartness on the finish.

L: Golden yellow with hardly any head which quickly dissipates.
S: Dark chocolate. Real nice.
T: Strong dark chocolate taste with some tartness. The saltiness is quite subtle but recognizable.
F: Light bodied and lightly carbonated.
O: Very nice, just not really what I'm looking for in a gose. Glad I had it and I'm glad they brewed it.
