This beer poured a rich, liquid gold with a fleeting quarter inch foamy cap that vanished quickly.

On the nose, I initially thought I smelled banana, so that was a what the heck moment. But it is mosly a nice, laid back citrusy sour with a wine-like characteristic presumably from the Sevval Blanc lees it was oak-aged upon. I do detect a bit of oaky tannin. It is more lemon/lime woven together with the grape notes. Very nice, balanced, just a hint of earthy funk.

The taste is amazingly smooth. It is not an intense sour, maybe a little towards the cider vinegar with a touch of sweetness. It strikes me as wine-like with the grape presence being an easily identifiable characteristic. There is just enough funky, earthy sensation to balance the sour. The oak is fleeting if it is present at all. Seems more like a vague whisper of tannin phenolics than a clear statement. It is drying on the finsh, but nicely carbonated, and a thick mouthfeel.

There are no rough edges here. This is a very well-rounded beer that delivers a highly pleasing marriage of mild sour, earthy funk, citrusy fruits, and a bit of tannin to dry it out and leave a clean palate. I get a tiny bit of sweetness which seems to be the wine grape remnants, and just a touch of spicy phenolics as it warms through.

Excellent, well-crafted brew. I would highly recommend ths beer.

Received in a BIF from generous BA cavedave. Let's pour this in my 13oz. tulip for the occasion.

Look- Pours a cloudy dark gold leaving a finger of soapy white foam that settles in quick order. A small amount of carbonation is present.

Smell- Tart citrus fruit, sour funk, vinegar and lastly some oak.

Taste- Tart citrus lemon-lime, mild vinegar, straw. Letting it warm to 55-60 degrees seems to bring out a bit of the oak flavor and a hint of spiciness.

Feel- A nice meld of tart and sour with a very dry finish.

Overall- I saved this for a warm day because of the low abv. and it delivered. A nice complement of citrus tartness with a hint of sour funk and a dash of oak. A very solid beer that I think would be a great introduction to the style for people with it as it's not too over the top sour. Refreshing on this 85 degree day!

Dregs left behind, it pours a beautiful lightly cloudy dark gold, with a quick to flee half inch of white foam. Visible carbonation. Island and ring of foam hang on for the ride.

There are both rounded and sharply tart notes in the aroma, a hint of tannic, underneath it lemon limey and vinous character fill it out to a really tasty bouquet.

Tasty earth notes join all the flavors of the aroma and create a most delicious taste. Especially nice is the end of the sip, a morphing mix of fruity tartness and tangy earthiness that dries it nicely. No real oak or other barrel notes, other than the light tannic note that harmonizes with the other flavors well. Once it warms, though, oak notes do appear and add just the right touch.

Well carb'ed, high viscosity, clean flavors, nothing too sharp or resiny in finish, frames flavors well.

Really delicious beer from Newburgh. Highly recommended. Hope their barrel program does a bunch more of this style.
