I am back to dedicating my time to garnering & closing out the "Better Together" Untappd badge which is awarded in increments of five (5). That is to say, for every five unique collab beers that I check into, I am awarded one (1) badge level. It closes out at Level 100 or 500 unique collab beers. Right now, I am at 482 with this one as 483. I dedicate these next few beers & reviews to Boss-man @Todd since that is how I have referred to him since we first met. This Boss is for you, Boss-man!
From the CAN: "[2019] Boss Collaboration Series #18"; "Newburgh Brewing Company and Friends"; "Welcome to New Jersey"; "Proudly Brewed & CANned by Newburgh Brewing Company Newburgh, NY, U.S.A."; "Carton Brewing Company"; "Brewed with Heart"; "Hops[,] Lemon Peel[,] Sea Salt"; "Drink Local".
It was described as an NEIPA/Gose mash-up & I wondered whether it would work or just be a worst-of-both-worlds scenario. In order to find out, I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It foamed nicely to form two-plus fingers of soapy, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with modest retention, which is very Gose-like. Color was a hazy Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4). Nose had both a tart funkiness & an easily perceived salty presence, but I was not feeling it as an AIPA, an NEIPA or an IPA of any stripe. I am going to review this as a Leipzig Gose & submit a ChANge request when I am finished. CAN't hurt, right? Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, but very soft in the mouth & on the tongue. The taste was both salty and citrusy-tart, very much a lemon-lime mix. I do not know what hops they used, but they seem to have been wasted in this as there was no perceptible bitterness. Instead, it was very Gose-like with an unrelenting salty-citrusiness throughout. Finish was quite dry and refreshing, the sort of thing to take to the Jersey shore in a cooler (or a Carton), if these COVID-19 restrictions are ever lifted. YMMV.
