Solid beer -definitely one of a kind. Low carbonation and solid coffee flavor. Light bitterness, but that helps keep it smooth. Theis beer keeps the flavor straight without too many confusing influences.

On tap in a pint glass at The Petrol Station, Houston. Dark to the point of opaqueness. Faint nose of grain and fruity hops. Taste is pretty bitter and that along with the acrid roasted grain notes makes this one a miss for me. Not the worst beer I've had but nothing I would seek out. When I ordered, I thought this was listed as an IPA but I could be wrong. Either way, it is probably appropriate for the style and there were no glaring brew-house faults so I'll just say, if you are a fan of black beers, give it a try. Otherwise, I'd suggest a skip.

Well executed black ale with good appearance and aroma. The flavors were pretty good and not overly bitter, but this beer style is not my favorite. I was looking for more hop aroma and a thicker mouthfeel. Good thing Brash has other options that cater to my needs.

On tap at D&T Drive Inn, Houston

A: Pours a near opaque black color. A two finger tan head forms with good retention and excellent lace.
S: A big bitter and resiny hop aroma. Pine and grapefruit. Bitterness lingers on and on. Not much else I can pick up.
T: Bitterness up front. A resiny, sticky, soapy pine character. Some sweet malts try to come out, maybe light chocolate even. Though the bitter piny and eventually grapefruit character takes over and I don't much care for that. The bitter finish never stops...
M/O: A full body with moderate carbonation. Sticky, resiny, soapy, and oily. Blah. Considering the viscous nature, harsh lingering bitterness, and no depth...nothing I really care to come back to any time soon.

Is anyone else tiered of black beers that happen to have an IPA bitterness that lingers forever? Yep, I have been for a long long time. I have tried to give Brash a fair shake, but they seem to be a one trick pony (everything is big and over the top, and overly bitter). I believe they care about their products, and are making things a certain niche of the Houston beer nerd crowd wants, but seems to be completely out of line with what I want.

Deep cola look. Coffe stout taste with a lager mouthfeel. Typical for a black, yet a pleasant bitterness that compliments the strong alcohol notes. Needs a little more carbonation?
