Made by Equal Parts now...a Rye Black IPA with Citra and Amarillo hops.

A: Pours a dark black, near opaque color. With just a touch of ruby highlights around the edges. A beige head forms with good retention and plenty of lace.
S: Big pine and citrus, resiny, and then the malts come into play. Lightly roasted, caramel, even a bit of a buttery character.
T: All the pine resin and citrus is up front. Darker malts take over with coffee, chocolate, roast. Sugar and sweetness. There is a noticeable buttery flavor, not sure if that is the dreaded diacetyl, but it is there. This could actually use a bit more bitterness in the finish, and it all kind of clashes just enough to be noticeable.
M/O: A full body with moderate carbonation. There is a sticky, resiny quality here, and finishes very smooth. Certainly not perfect, with a few "flaws" for me, if you want to call it that, but still enjoyable to drink.

As Black IPA's go, I do tend to find the flavors clash a bit. No different here, but even with some of that clashing going on, its surprisingly still enjoyable to drink. I don't get any rye though. Some spicy character might have helped. Anyway, the first Brash beer I have had in a long time, made by Equal Parts though. Its perfectly fine, but would rather have some Equal Parts to be honest.

Had this from draft at the Thistle Draftshop on MLK day. Poured into a shaker pint glass. Beautiful beer with a creamy beige head atop a clear dark body. Smell and taste that is earthy and citrusy. Intensely bitter and malty. Taste better than smell. Good full feel. Overall, pretty good black IPA.

Thanks to megadeph for this 22 oz. bottle that arrived recently as an extra. Night three of watching Minnesota burn. 2020? Please go away & die.

The pour is right there in the name of the beer. The nose is spicy rye. I like.

I Am The Black Wizards is evidently based on a ‘song’ I just listened to & there is now blood leaking from my ears. Holy crappiness. The beer’s primary occupation is to impart that lovely spicy rye to the palate & if that’s all there was, I’d be delighted. Mid-palate is light roast, mild pine, with a fading sweetness on the finish. Really easy to sip.

A single color painting. A simple, very good brew.
