Served on tap in a short 10 oz tumbler style glass
Appearance – The beer is served an orange-amber color with a one finger foamy white head floating atop the surface. The head of the beer fades rather fast, leaving a nice level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is big of grapefruit smells rounded out by some lighter sweet citrus aromas of a tangerine nature. Along with these smells is a rather light dose of a resinous pine hop smell as well as a light earthy aroma. A bit of a cracker malt smell is there as well with the overall aroma rather hoppy but balanced.
Taste – The taste begins, as may have been expected from the nose, with a big grapefruit citrus taste matched by some sweeter tangerine flavors. There is a biscuit flavor that is present from the start which dwindles as the flavors advances. While the biscuit dwindles, more tangerine comes to the tongue being joined by other hop flavors. The other hops are of a pine and earthy nature with the earthy remaining quite light to the end of the taste while the pine gets a bit stronger. Along with the pine getting stronger so too does the grapefruit, with the mix of flavors at the end of the taste leaving a somewhat resinous and grapefruity bitter sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is a bit light. Both are rather nice for the style really allowing the hop to shine and making it a pleasant slow sipper.
Overall – A rather tasty double IPA with a nice blend of sweet and bitter citrus with enough malt and other hop flavors to keep it rather balanced and quite interesting.
