A well-hopped, dark IPA served via nitrogen for a thick, aromatic head thanks to fine bubbles from a blend of nitrogen and CO2. A medium-sized IPA hopped with Chinook, Falconer’s Flight, Simcoe, Citra and Cascade.

Served from nitro tap into 12 oz glass at Otto's Brewery, State College, PA
Creamy dry Irish style dry stout with a delicate sweetness and IPA style hoppy over tones.
I am not fond of most black IPA's. I do enjoy dry Irish stout. My usual beers are well balanced single and double IPA's.
This is the most interesting tasting brew I've had recently.
Because of the nitro, it is not bottled or sold in growlers.
Unfortunately, I don't live near State College, but the next time I'm there I'll make sure I get to Otto's to have another one of these.

Served on nitro tap in a pint glass
Appearance – Being a nitro pour the beer is served with a beautiful cascade of bubbles streaming up through the deep brown nearly black body of the beer. The bubbles finally all come up to the surface of the beer where they leave a thick and billowy off white foam floating atop the beer. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading to leave a good level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is moderately heavy of some hoppy smells of a pine and herbal nature with some lighter smells of a grapefruit hop as well. Along with the hop are some aromas of drier roasted malt smell as well as some hints of a chocolate and a caramel smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a roasted malt taste that is on the drier side. A decent flavor of coffee and a little hint of caramel are present upfront. Also present from the start is a little bit of a pine flavor. As the taste advances a little more caramel comes to the tongue as well as a little bit of a cocoa flavor. The sweetness remains quite light being heavily dominated by the roasted flavors. While the pine hop is somewhat lighter upfront it grows to a moderate strength in the middle, at which point a grapefruit hop flavor comes to the tongue. The grapefruit gains quite a bit of strength as the flavor moves onto the end of the taste, with the roasted flavors losing some ground ever so slightly, leaving a citrus bitter and moderately roasty flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – Being a nitro pour the body of the beer is creamy and somewhat heavy on the palate. For the mix of darker and hop flavors the creaminess really allows the flavors to soak in acting as a nice base for the hop and roast.
Overall – A pretty nice darker IPA. More sessionable and rather easy drinking with the nitro pour complementing the flavors rather nicely.
