As per the brewery description, "This beer is inspired by a recipe found in a 3.700 year old Mediterranean wine cellar. Mint, juniper berries, cinnamon bark, concord grapes, and myrtle berries imported from Greece were fused with a Stout base which was fermented with a British Stout yeast and dry hopped with Nelson Sauvin. The resulting stout has strong aromatics, is spicy on the palate, and finishes dry with a hint of grape."
Had from a bomber at Otto's Put and brewery, poured into a snifter.
L: Pours a deep mahogany color, nearly black with moderate tannish head.
S: Mint and juniper dominate. Toasted malts way in the background.
T/F: Spicy and crisp... strong mint notes and a gin-like flavor from the juniper. Not unpleasant but a bit herbal. Hops not really noticeable. Possibly a bit overcarbonated.
O: An interesting beer, and reminds me of the Dogfish head 'Ancient Ales' series. I didn't dislike it, but I probably wouldn't seek it out again. Made for an interesting change of pace, and one that I would probably have preferred to share rather than have the whole bomber myself.
