Part of Otto's limited 'Cork and Cage' series.... brewery only, served from a bomber into a tulip glass.
As described by the brewer: "Inspired from holiday treats of old, this ale was brewed with coriander, cranberry, raisins, orange peel, cocoa nibs, cherries, honey, molasses, and amber Belgian candi sugar. It was then aged for a month in an American oak wine barrel, giving it an additional level of complexity. Enjoy one with friends and let the Belsnickel put you in the holiday spirit."
L: Poured into a tulip glass, a golden cinnamon color and quite hazy. A thick creamy white head took awhile to fall with ample lacing.
S: Fruit on the nose... cherries and raisins with a malty/bread aroma. Sweet, with a little zest from the wine barrels.
T/F: Carbonated and moderately smooth, very much full of flavor. Something of a sweet and sour effect... sweetness first (candy, molasses, and raisins) with a bit of cherry tartness in the aftertaste. Complex and festive... definitely a great Christmas time release. Some spiciness from the coriander very much complements the brew.
O: A very nice limited release from Otto's. Shame it's brewery only, because it's quite a commitment to get a bomber while you're in-shop (they're not allowed to sell for take home). This would be great to sip as a dessert with a few friends after a nice meal (which you can easily get at Otto's). Recommended and the 9.7% alcohol can easily sneak up on you.
