A straightforward no-fuss-no-muss take on the classic style, gets the sweet caramel malt notes right, mouthfeel is well carbonated, aroma is a tad lacking but otherwise a very solid beer

 

 

Had on-tap at Otto's Brewery in State College, served in a pint glass.

L: Pours a deep amber, semi opaque with a moderate white head that took a bit to fall and nicely laced my glass.

S: Sweet malts, mild hops, bready.

T/F: This is a pretty tasty beer. There's malty sweetness there as expected for a Maibock, but with a more noticeable hop profile at the finish than you typically see. Dry at the finish. A bit thick with nice moderate carbonation.

O: A nice Maibock, and pretty tasty overall. I go to Otto's frequently and this definitely works its way into the rotation when they have it on tap.

 

 

 

22 oz bottle. Pours deep golden with a short-lived white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is of noble hops, hey, caramel and biscuit malt. Body is full and slightly crisp. Caramel malt, bread crust, drying alcohol, hint of cherries and herbal hops fills the mouth. Finish is medium and dry. Nice, malty brew.

 

 

Poured from a bottle into a Duvel tulip

A- pours a dark orange, nearly a cherry red, with a one finger slightly offwhite head. A little dark for a maibock...

S- nice aroma of grain, with a little bit of sweetness as well. Very good

T- slight sweetness, a little bit of a corn taste....lots of Munich malt comes through. Very, very good

M- body is actually pretty thick....a little too thick for a lager IMO

O- this is a very good beer. Pretty good example of the style

On tap at a friend's home bar. I'm not a big maibock fan, but this is a well balanced and tasty take on the style. There's a toasty edge to the malt you don't normally find, but it helps soften the sweeter barley and light berry esters. The body has a medium thickness, but not too much. I'd just say appropriate for the style and strenght. Great beer, get a pint if you can.

 

A - Served with a bright, golden yellow body with visible carbonation bubbles...the head was white in color and stood one finger tall...it receded to a full ring and left some patchy lacing

S - Bready malts with a toasted presence to them...some doughy aspects...sweet caramel and toffee...grassy hops in the back end

T - The flavor follows the nose pretty closely...with first sip there is an initial sweetness that brings forward some caramel and toffee...the middle is where the malts shine through...they are toasted nicely bringing out a slight grain flavor...the grain flavor mixes in with the bready and doughy flavors lingering...the finish provides some grassy hops that just brighten things up a little

M - Light bodied...crisp and refreshing...hops add a little to the finish

O - This was a very easy drinking Maibock...the flavor profile could have used a little more, but what was there was solid

Appearance – Served a nice amber color with a light white head. The head faded fast giving way to some a very small amount of lacing.

Smell – The smell is mainly malty in nature with an ever so light amount of sweetness. The maltiness is bready with a light yeast aroma mixed in. The sweetness is of toffee and a bit of caramel.

Taste – The taste is very similar to the nose; it starts out malty and ends a little bit sweeter. In the beginning nice tastes of some roasted malt and a little bit of wheat meet the tongue. These are sweetened as the taste progresses with flavors of toffee and caramel. The mix of flavors then mixes with an ever so light hopiness and some alcohol flavor come in to take the taste profile to its finish.

Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel is rather moderate and the carbonation level is quite average. It is very easy to drink.

Overall –A nice bready brew that is very easy to drink.

 

 

 

Picked this up at the brewpub on my way through on Father's Day.

Poured into a shaker: Three fingers of dense, foamy head over a light, honey amber color, just transparent. Drops to a half-finger & leaves a nice curtain of lacing around the crown. Really good-looking beer.

Smells of crusty, light bread with a restrained honey sweetness. Bringing up the rear is a crisp lager character: mineral, a little basement mustiness, slightly grassy hops. Not as full as it could be, but pretty nice.

Malt hits up front, with that touch of bread & honey, followed up a crisp & earthy hop bite that kind of takes over. Booze creeps in a little bit & adds some heat but doesn't get to be too much. That sweetness lingers throughout & follows through to the aftertaste.

Nicely medium-bodied, both smooth & crisp without that stickiness that can sneak into Maibocks a lot of the time (not that that's a bad thing).

I'm into this - hits the right spots while remaining balanced & restrained in all areas. This is what I like about Maibock.
