From what I know, Im guessing this is a special edition beer, and Im not sure if it will return or not. All I know is that this batch is almost gone, and I wish I had gotten out to Ottos more often while it was around. I LOVED this stuff, and thats why I felt the need to review it.
Its a cloudy, dark copper-brown with a very small, slightly off-white, creamy head that quickly fades to a ring. Good lacing. It has a HUGE woodsy bourbon aroma which at first almost seems quite intriguing but a little overpowering for the relatively delicate tripel. But wow! flavor-wise, The bourbon barrels really took to this beer (wait, or did I get the backwards). Wonderful fruit and alcohol esters and a solid malt presence. A touch of diacetyl and a pleasant amount of caramel. Some late-hitting wheat flavors remind of what this beer was in its previous life, but its quite different than their standard Tripel. It has a full body and a slick, lightly astringent mouthfeel that I really like. At times it tastes like they put a half-shot of bourbon in the glass. Between the aroma, flavor and liquor-like warming finish, this had the Kentucky blood in me screaming for more. This is definitely not for everybody, but totally worth a try if he ever makes another batch.
