On cask at Otto's on 1/3/09.

A - Poured a hazy amber/caramel-colored body with a patchy white head that reduced to a thin ring of retention but produced some attractive lacing.

S - Subdued aroma with only hints of caramel and bready malt and a trace amount of hops.

T - Malty ale with muddy, earthy hops yielding leafy and woody notes, but pretty mild overall. This is all about the caramel malt flavor. Finish is only mildly bitter with earthy characteristics.

M - Light to medium body with a slight syrupy texture, though a bit thin and watery overall. Finish is slightly bitter on the palate.

D - While I found this to be rather one-dimensional, it was still above average and quite drinkable. With that said, I don't find myself craving another one anytime soon.

Served on cask via handpump at the brewpub on 12/27/08.

Pours a hazy amber, with some orange hues, and a thin covering of brite-white head. Pretty much retains at that level, leaving some nice thick lace behind. The aroma is actually quite lively on this but not overly deep, being malty, spicy, citric and a bit floral in the back.

The taste is a nice silky mix of malty sweetness, spice, citric tang, and a moderate feeling hop bitterness that livens the profile up a bit. The mouthfeel is extremely silky and smooth feeling that goes down exceptionally well.

This is pretty much par for the course with the other Arthur cask offerings from Otto's. Lively but not overly deep flavors, fantastic creamy body, and huge drinkibility. I killed this 20 oz pint in no time!

At Otto's after PSU's big win over MSU to clinch their bid to the Rose Bowl! Had a nice dinner and a few drinks which started with this:

A: Hazy copper with a decent head.

S: Not a whole lot going on here, faint malt smell and a bit of hops, but not much.

T: Nice and crisp but a little lacking in some supporting flavors. There's a bit of hoppiness to support which helps. I know the style isn't supposed to be overwhelmed by flavors, but this is a bit too bland.

M: Nice, easy, and smooth, solid cask style.

D: Good brew if you're looking for something light and easy to drink. But if you're looking for flavor or something more fullfilling to go with dinner, you should look elsewhere. Otto's has done better and this isn't one worth going out of your way.

Glad to see this on cask today at Otto's. They are always whipping up something different there...

A: This one pours an extremely hazy orange/red copper with a nice creamy eggshell head. This one is completely opaque with all the haze, but the magnificent head really takes the cake on this one.

S: The smell is really lacking on this one however. Smells almost macro-like with pale malts. It was lacking the caramel that I expected from the color.

T: The taste is very light and crisp with pale malts and very, very minor caramel. It is a great crisp beer, but not one that is exploding with flavor.

M/D: The mouthfeel is slightly under carbonated, but I expected that from the cask. It is very creamy and light with an exceptional drinkability. I could have 4 of these easy.

Overall, a nice light scotch ale, but it could use a little more flavor.
