Poured from a 'bourbon barrel' stickered regular 'Double D' can. Poured into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Cloudy golden pour with 2 fingers of foamy white head. Great lacing.
S: No doubt that this is barrel aged. Strong oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Largely overpowers the hops.
T.F: Some light citrus and pine hops giving way to a rich vanilla, oak, and bourbon flavor mid-swig. The barrel character dominates, but the hops do come through early and late... and work surprisingly well with the bourbon. Medium bodied and sticky. Warming and gets better as the temp increases.
O: A surprisingly good barrel aged IIPA. The flavors work better together than I expected... and I wonder if it's because they've used a sweeter bourbon (maybe from their Barrel 21 distillery?). Not typically a style I'm a fan of, but I really enjoyed this unholy hybrid. I also think the ABV is north of the 9.2% listed on the can... which was really just a regular old 'Double D' can with a 'bourbon aged' sticker slapped on. Alas, the world may never know...
