On tap at Otto's on 1/3/09.
A - Poured a muddy horsechestnut brown body with plum accents and a finger's width of creamy tan head that settled into a patchy film and left thick, ornate lacing on the glass.
S - This brew displays a tart, mildly sour cherry aroma with a subtle malt character and a bit of winter spice. There's definitely no shortage of spicy yeast and fruity esters, resulting in plenty of black cherry notes that are eventually complemented by hints of chocolate as it warmed up a bit.
T - Black cherry is at the forefront of this brew, but not as obvious as in the aroma. There's a bit of funk around the edges with spme spicy, yeasty accents. Alcohol is certainly present, but it is ultimately camoflagued quite nicely amidst all of the other flavors.
M - Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation and syrupy texture, resulting in a pretty thick, chewy mouthfeel overall. Mildly spicy on the palate with a bit of alcohol warmth.
D - This one is a sipper for sure. Careful with this one... it boasts quite a hefty ABV! This is a nice take on the winter warmer style with a pleasant cherry character and not so heavy on the spices.

On tap at the brewpub on 12/27/08. 10 oz pour into a snifter.
Pours a murky deep cranberry with a 1/4 finger of light, tan colored head. Good looking flareup yields a nice creamy cascade of lacing down the sides of the glass. The aroma is quite nice, delivering a delicoius smelling waft of tart cherries, candied sugar, spice, Belgian yeast, and just the slightest sense of warmth.
The taste takes the cherries and integrates them even better than the aroma did, blending them into a well balanced and smooth mix of candied sweetness, spices, and yeast. Finishes tart and warm on the lips. The mouthfeel is medium-fuller bodied with a surprisingly soft yet firm feel despite the higher ABV of this. Speaking of the ABV, it provides some beef and an overall sense of light warmth to the body but for the most part, this is pretty darn undetectable. Nice!
This latest seasonal from Otto's really took me by surprise. A full flavored Quad with a nice cherry tang and fantastic drinkibility for the size, it was a delicious way to take the chilly edge off a cool winter afternoon.

Glad to see this one finally on tap at Otto's. It is a Belgian Quad fermented upon a bed of sour cherries. Had it served into an appropriate snifter style glass...
A: Pours a rich mahogany with a blend of brown and deep red hues. This our pours with a decent one finger head that leaves spotty lacing.
S: The smell is fantastic. Deep, rich cherry puree blended fantastically with Belgian yeast and spices.
T: Wow is this one good. Very sweet as soon as you take a sip. The sweetness lasts through the mouthfeel and blends nicely into the finish of Belgian yeast and spices. Some heat comes on at the end but what do you expect for an 11.5ABV.
Overall, Otto's does not disappoint. Another fantastic beer from a great brew pub!
