Poured into a goblet: color is gold, not clear, head is off white with fine to small bubbles, head presents 1/4 inch thick, then dissipates to thin top, lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is pale malt, light caramel, earth, light melon and citrus, some honey and aged a bit.

Taste is more pale malt, caramel, earth, citrus, honey, aged pale ale and some light tea.

Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness.

Overall a very classic pale ale with prominent pale malt, caramel notes, earth and tea, aged flavoring/oxidation.

Hops are pretty cranked up for a “Belgian” pale, and I can’t say there is any detectable Belgian yeast flavors. Tastes like a normal pale ale with overly floral hops

DATE: June 30, 2017... OCCASION: live at Otto’s visiting Jer... GLASSWARE: no nick pint... arrives as an opaque burnt sienna body with a nice white ring--no room for head... first hints are fruity--apple, pear, BIG pineapple, melon, citrus... biscuit is a subtle reminder that the beer seeks balance...the Simcoe brings some earthiness to the aroma as well... lively and punchy, but mellow at its finish--the balance is struck in its palate...light to medium-bodied at 6.1%...the melon and grapefruit wed well with the apple and pear with the Simcoe pine working the profile well... a right solid pale that flirts with an IPA’s dimensions... refreshing and fruity, confident but agreeable...

on tap

cloudy yellow orange, tight one finger head.

good hop bite up front with tangerine and some lemon grass blended with fruity esters, banana from the Belgian yeast. a little bit of sweetness and some apricot-like flavors. the hop profile goes well with the Belgian style/yeast used. body is medium and carb. is higher end of medium. not a dry finish and the esters linger a bit. Of the (4) Otto's beers had today, this one was the best.

Had on-tap at Otto's in State College, PA - poured into a pub club pint glass.

L: Pours a semi-opaque deep amber color with a finger of white head. Minimal lacing.

S: Biscuits and hops. Citrus and evergreen on the nose as well as some breadyness from the Belgian yeasts.

T/F: Somewhat dry with a mild hop palate. Citrusy and floral, and decent malt character. The Belgian yeasts add some complexity. Mild carbonation.

O: Not a bad pale ale and the Belgian yeasts add a nice twist on an old favorite. I still prefer their Double D as a go-to, but for a light sessionable pale ale this hits the spot.
