16oz can into a pint glass. NO freshness dating.
Poured beautiful crystal clear amber color until the last couple ounces, which turned the body a cloudy reddish amber. Small head shrinks almost immediately, so no lacing.
Suitably belgiany in aroma, rich malty, though very faint banana and spice notes.
On tasting, the rich malty notes are dominant and quite pleasing. The abv is noticable. Some dark stone fruit as well.
Mouth closer to full than medium. Finish a little sweet then a warm fruit ending.
Overall, decent drink. Far from the best dubbel out there, but nicely put together, all the elements that should be there are, with varying strength and effect.

Dark amber with a thin cap of white head that fades within a minute. Smells of ripe red apples and some very very faint clove. Malty flavor with a hop bitterness in the finish. The flavor of ripe red apples carries the flavor. Carbonation is a bit high with a medium mouthfeel.

Ba Review #186

Glassware: Pint Glass

This was from a growler filled back on Sunday 7/8/2012 while heading home from visiting family in Western PA.
Look: Poured a very bold clear copper color with a respectable 2-finger kaki head, especially after being poured from a screw-top growler. Carbonation bubbles were sparce, but present. Lacing was a no-go.
Smell: I picked up on some fruity biscuit and a slight hint of sweet malts. Not too much more was happening with the nose.
Taste: Ok, first off was an interesting twang. Almost like a malt extract that was 'pre-funked' with Belgian yeast esters. I also noticed a plastic quality that is found in most home brew kits. The biscuit notes seemed to carry through from the nose, but that malt extract character kept distracting my palate from any real qualities this beer may have had.
For a $12.00 growler fill, I was rather disappointed. I seriously thought that Otto's could have done more with the Dubble style. I have to regret this one: although if it's ever bottled - I will try again.

Served in a 12 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a clear orange-copper color with a tiny white head. The head faded really fast giving almost no lacing at all.
Smell – The nose was biggest in breadiness with yeasty and spicy aromas mixed in. There was a light sweet fruit aromas of banana, orange and some dark fruit smells as well. While overall the aroma was light, it was very nice.
Taste – The taste was up front of breadiness and caramel sweetness. A yeasty and light fruity flavor quickly came into the tongue. Flavors of yeast cake, banana and orange all came to mix with the breadiness. The little bit of caramel that was left from the initial taste soon faded and a nice Belgian spice blend hit the tongue. These flavors had a nice balance and left a very pleasing flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel was rather average with a lower level of carbonation. The mouthfeel was a little thin and to accentuate the nice flavor balance and spice it would have been better a bit thicker.
Overall – While not the best example of a dubbel it was a good tasting and smelling brew none the less. Worth a try.
