Full disclosure, I drank a 3 year vertical of this and compared side by side. After doing that, I highly recommend trying it with this beer. Aged very well and the differences in batches (side by side) was very apparent (spices came through more and more as it aged with the older batches). It is a fantastic holiday ale that I will buy every year.

pours a dark rustic orange. nose is a nicely balanced mix of cinnamon, allspice. not much vanilla. not overpowering like a lot of winter warmers. similarly the taste is a nice balance of cinnamon, brown sugar, allspice with a sweet, warming finish. traces of vanilla. nicely carbonated. a good winter warmer that doesnt over-do the spices.
should be noted this is, i believe from Christmas '13. being drank in April '15.

Appearance: Deep mahogany brown in color, with a massive, dense tan head, which retains superbly. Belgian lacing decorates the glass walls. The beer is opaque before light.
Aroma: Dense aroma of dark malt, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and brown sugar, as if toasted dark bread were glazed with sugar and spices.
Taste: Opens with brown sugar and spices, ginger and nutmeg are quite prominent. As the taste progresses, spicy alcohol and medicinal hops manifest. The spices are a superb accent, not commonly seen in the style. Late in the taste, there is a wave of sweet alcohol and spices. Finishes with a lingering, mild medicinal bitterness.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, very pleasant, quite drinkable.
Drinkability/notes: An excellent, over-the-top example of the style, which offers some depth not commonly encountered in this style, well worth a try.
Presentation: Packaged in a standard twenty-two ounce brown glass bomber with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Mahogany colored beer with a pillowy beige head. Smells like the holiday,s cinnamon sugar notes, gingerbread, spices. Taste is subdued at first but the after tastes of brown sugar and spices hit hard and linger in the after taste, the nutmeg flavors were especially lingering (not a bad thing, you better like nutmeg though). I was really surpirsed this beer was over 9% ABV, concealed very nicely.
