my first ever beer from these guys, and it ended up being among my very favorites from our week in texas, a beautiful flavored stout, really texas, and really well done. the pecan element is natural, toasted, lightly sweet but not desserty, and with the cinnamon and vanilla really not being too much at all. i think no lactose in here, which is a smart call with the tendency of the vanilla to run a little sweet, and with some bitterness from the natural cocoa thats amazing in here too, the earthy pecans with it are just killer, and its so smooth, mellow, nothing forced at all. if there is lactose, it s real minimal. pecans are obvious all the way through, highlighted nicely by the cinnamon, which i was a little worried about, but it works perfectly rising up just a little bit at the finish. on top of that, there is a natural coffee element to the dark grain which gives it great balance overall. a brilliant use of pecans here in a very drinkable and flavorful stout, a beer i would seek out regularly if i lived here, not too sweet, which i think is its greatest success. i wish i had a chance to drink more of their stuff this week while i was down there...
