just had this tonight on tap at the brewpub

A- poured a pitch black its 3.50 as they say for 8 oz which looks pretty puny in the snifter they give you althogh the beer it self looks great. dark brown chocolate head on top, clear pitch black color.

S- the brandy is lighter than i was expecting, strong roasted charachter and i would give it a little smokey charachter but that is probably just the toasted charachter. chocolate and pretty smooth

T- very nice. smooth roasted charachter, undertones of the brandy are nice and pretty strong. theres a heavy texture to this which is really nice. the really creamy texture makes it seem much mroe intense and gives it a great overall charachter which matches well with the roasted and chocolate malts.

M- pretty heavy and very ceramy, sticky to the tongue

D- pretty damn awesome, was gonna get a growler but it was 45 dollars to fill my growler, while only 9 for the normal spetznaz

$3.50 for a small snifter at the brewery.

Appearance: Black as night with a thin milk chocolate head that creates swirling lace for the entirety of the drinking experience.

Aroma: Oaky and earthy with lots of big roasted malt notes and sweet brandy fruit aromas. Touches of cocoa.

Taste: Well melded dry roasted malt notes with hints of chocolate and sweet fruity flavors of brandy. Earthy with pronounced oak character.

Mouthfeel: Wonderful. Smooth and restrained rich body with a top palate alcohol bunch that let's you know where this came from. You can feel a subtle burn all the way up into your nostrils.

Drinkability: Medium bodied and surprisingly easy to drink.

6oz sample in snifter at Brewpub $3.50

A-Deep black body with huge mocha head that turns to lacing and permanent film. The thick head and body appearance was beautiful.

S-WOW is one way to put it. It feels like you have your head stuck in a fresh brandy barrel. Heavy doses of roasted malts and coffee mix perfectly with the big brandy sweetness and earthy oak.

T-Great blend of acidic and sharp roasted malt and warming brandy. A true multi-faceted beer with flavor profiles ranging from sour to sweet.

M-Rich with alcohol burn but incredibly smooth and controlled. The finish is well-balanced and is far from abrasive. The body is a bit thinner than I expected but not too much else to complain about.

D-This may be a bit too much for drinking all the time but it is one of the most well-crafted and memorable beers that I have had in a while. Superbly done and a great example of brewers pushing the edges and using barrel-aging to their advantage.

Not sure of the ABV of this one but I am sure it bumped the original brew up a few notches! Aged in a brandy barrel for over 6 months. A special treat for me on what is my first, and hopefully not last, visit to The Grumpy Troll!

A-Black with dark brown highlights. A thick dark tan and ever present head, beautiful!

S-Wow..roasty malt, smokey oak and sweet brandy...this is really nie!

T-Sweet brandy followed by a nice dry roastiness. Niether overpowers the other. Superb balance of the sweet brandy and dry roasted malt. This is a lovely combination.

M-Medium bodied, "thinner" than I expected. Still nice but not as full as I would have liked. Ends nice and astringent on the tounge.

D-A great sipper. Totally soild with wonderful balance. A real treat to have been able and score this one!
