A huge thanks to JoJo for sending this one my way. I would have never had a chance to try it otherwise! Served chilled and into several glasses during the course of the day, this one was consumed on 07/20/2010.
The Grumpy Cherry pours out a very nice garnet color with loads of reddish highlights and hints to it that give it a wonderful color. There is no head or lacing to speak of and the beer itself is completely still.
Aroma of tart cherries is what is expected and what is delivered. Nice touches of light sweetness and hints of spice that dart in an out. Qucikly hitting the taste buds with a full on assault of tartness and sour cherries this one wastes no time at all at getting to the point! Warming really brings the cherries to the front as the fruit is still young and dominates the flavor before the sour an funky notes really start to dig in. Finish is clean and really does a nice job of pullling the whole thing together.
Overall a very nice and tightly packed wild ale here. The cherries are still in your face which is the way I like it. Super drinkable with no issues at all in putting down multiple glasses. Definite try here.
