Copenhagen 25/2 2019. 50 cl bottle from Vinbørsen, Kbh Ø. Skt George battling the Dragon on the label together with a Shield and some Hop Cones.
Pours clear dark brown with a red hue. Big white head. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of of the beer. No lacing.
Aroma is malty, sweet and boozy. Caramel, fermented fruit, dark berries, lighter sour notes. Fairly strong presence of alcohol.
Moderately strong carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, flat texture.
Flavor is heavy sweet followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with sharp, boozy edge. Lingers for a while.
As a Doppel bock should be. Malty, sweet and strong.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 7.3%. Colour somewhere between mahogany and black, large and lasting beige head. Moderate but nice aroma of roasted malts and bakery, hints of oak and leather. Very malty and well rounded flavour, medium sweet, notes of mild coffee and black bread. Moderate but sufficient hops, fairly smooth and easy to drink for a 7.3% beer. Nice one!

A proper beer, summer, thirst that passed with a particular aroma that I identify. Without the level of complexity and forcefulness that I like most, a good Bavarian beer of a style in which I feel very comfortable

This is some serious stuff. Pours dark brown body with ruby hue when held to the light and visible trails of upraising bubbles, capped by mid-sized, light tan head that slowly recedes.
Nose is sweet maltiness exhibiting melanoidin qualities and pronounced toasty notes, light chocolate, grape-like fruitiness and a tinge of alcohol. I even get some faint aroma reminiscent of smoked-malt.
Malty-sweet flavor has evident toasty qualities and mild spicy noble-hop flavor. Body is full and viscous on the palate, with moderate carbonation trapped within. (500 ml, BB date 10-12-2012, into tulip.)
In short, a full-bodied Doppelbock with prominent toasty character.
