On tap. Hazy golden color with slightly off-white head. Aroma has nice overripe banana esters and sweet bread. Taste is soft with nice banana and cloves, really true to style. Smooth mouthfeel, not too carbonated.

500ml swingtop with a simple label purchased at Getranke Oase in Munich. Regrettably brief impressions below after pouring into a weissbier glas:

HEAD: None whatsoever.

BODY: Poor. Dull and watery, with a dirty pale orange colour. Hazy, yes, but completely wrong for a hefeweizen.

Not the vibrant hazy orange you'd expect in any hefeweizen (whether quality or not). Frankly, it looks terrible for the style.

AROMA: Watery. A muted hint of shallow orange. Dry saccharomyces yeast, dry baker's yeast. No clove, no bubblegum, no banana.

Aromatic intensity is average.

Suggests a weak shallow stab at a hefeweizen. I'm not too eager to try this...

TASTE & TEXTURE: Okay, the taste is better than the aroma, but not by much. A blip of orange citrus, wheat (neither stale nor fresh), generic barley, dry saccharomyces yeast. It's a bit watery, certainly thin, and weak in terms of presence on the palate.

Not the fresh wheat backbone with subtle yeast-derived esters of clove and orange peel (if not banana and/or bubbegum as well) you'd look for in a good example of the style.

OVERALL: A subpar hefeweizen, which is hugely disappointing given its region of origin. Nevertheless, it's drinkable. I wouldn't bother with it again - especially seeing as Franziskaner can be bought at almost any supermarket in Germany, and that's just the start of good weissbier. It's a little embarrassing this even made it to the Bavarian market.
