Pours a slightly cloudy, deep golden amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head and plenty of tiny particulates suspended in the glass. Smells of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit and pineapple, as well as some pine coming through as well. Taste follows the nose, with a great balance of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and resinous, fruity hops, with citrus/tropical notes of grapefruit and pineapple, as well as quite a bit of pine coming through as well. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some grapefruit, pineapple and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
An excellent West Coast IPA that really brings those sticky, resinous, piney notes to the table, backed up by some quite fruity accents and a nice, solid malt backbone, as well as a great, distinct bitterness in the finish. I would expect nothing less of an IPA brewed in collaboration with Fat Head's, who are masters of the style in my opinion. This actually reminds me a lot of the collaboration they did with Kundmüller not too long ago, which was just as good. This is also a case study in the importance of freshness though, as it does taste significantly worse now that I'm having it again almost 4 months after having it for the first time. For 6 months old, it's still surprisingly drinkable, although significantly less bitter and resinous than fresh, which really pushes the malt sweetness into the foreground, making it a bit more sweet than I would like, while the fruity notes also feel somewhat faded and washed out.
