March 2015: 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. BB date was 09.2013, appears to have cellared well. ABV is 5.5%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Decent aroma of chocolate / cocoa and coffee. The flavour is neither too sweet nor too dry. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, mild coffee and moderate but noticeable hops. Well balanced and enjoyable.

Very nice schwartzbier. Poured from a bottle into a tall hefe glass. Beautiful beige initial head and good lacing. Smooth feel. Very good toasted malt smell and taste. A bit of chocolate and hint of coffee. Almost a porter. Would buy again.

A - Black, small head, light amount of lacing.

S - Nice smells of coffee, chocolate, dark fruits. Very nice.

T - Similar tastes as smells, but not as complex in the palate as smell.

M - A little thin and watery. would be really good if more body.

O - Not a bad beer, but not as good as some of the other beers I've had from Italy lately.

From the 11.1 fl. oz. flat bottle with an expiration date of 11-2013 and lot no. 425. Sampled on February 26, 2013.

This is an attractive looking beer with its very dark brown to practically black pour and small but lingering tan head.

On the nose there are plenty of sweet roasted malts and a little bit of coffee. The hops are played down but there is a cleanliness there too.

The body is a little astringent but falls into the medium range generally.

The taste also brings out the sweet dark roasted malts like the aroma and the bitterness is very low at the end. This is a fairly easy to drink beer.

This poured out as a nice black colored beer with a creamy looking tan colored head on top. The retention and lacing are decent on this beer. The smell is earthy, herbal and lightly roasted. It smells like a what I think a Schwartzbier should. The taste of the beer is lightly roasted and has subtle chocolate finish to it. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, very easy to drink and goes down fast. Overall it's a really nice beer in my opinion.

Pours a pitch black with a sweet brown head into my glass. Yes sir, this is a schwarzbier. Yet another delight.

Sweet malt with a dab of cocoa and cream to change it up. It's not a stout but it's not overly roasty either. You can tell.

Ditto on mouthfeel. Chewy dark fruit essence with licorice and molasses as well. You can certainly tell it apart from a stout.

Lingering licorice, spice and molasses flavors. Unique. Distinctive. You know, the usual big, snobby words used to describe a beer.

Check it out. A beautiful example of the style.
