For a beer style as revered as Doppelbock, we reserved our finest barrels. What began as a ruby-red, rich, malty lager emerged as a more refined brew after resting in Port wine casks. It's ennobled by notes of raisins, jam, dark chocolate, and touch of mischief.

12.7oz bottle picked up at Cheap Charlie's in Gresham, OR
Poured into a Coin Toss Belgian-style tulip
2022 vintage
P deep mahogany w/ a small, very light tan head; quickly recedes to a ring
N soft-med aroma dark sugars, spiced bread, very light port character; gets bolder as it warms
T profile follows with spiced bread, raisins, and toffee; more subtle and less complex than anticipated; a touch of booze,; subtle dark fruit as well
Mf fairly full-bodied, yet not hearty; med-high to high carb; airy; carb detracts from the profile a bit
O alright, but underwhelming; very subdued profile that is in no way helped by the carb, imo; maybe it would've been better fresh?

375ml bottle. Bottling date stamped on label is not entirely legible, but the date appears to fall sometime in April of 2022.
Amber brown colored head. Two fingers of off white/light beige head settle back to a cap and ring.
Aroma of deep toasted malts, with dried dark fruit (raisins and prunes) and a whiff of chocolate.
Taste is port wine barrel over deep toasted malts. Flavors of oak, raisins, and a deep dark chocolate. The port wine barrel extends into the aftertaste.
Medium plus mouth feel, with a silky texture. Has a real drying effect. Good carbonation.
Takes a doppelbock to a different level with the barrel notes of oak and dried dark fruit.

Handsome golden brown brew with adequate foam in the Kasteel chalice. Hints of fig in the nose . Just enough leafy hops to balance the malts. Darkly fruity with a touch of dark caramel. Nectarine, plum, and nuts. Warm and richly flavored but actually less sweet than many Bocks in the category. This is just the right thing to do with a quality Doppelbock. From the 375ml bottle purchased at Elizabeth Station.
