a low alcohol helles type or german pils lager, really clean, summery, and good, no frills at all, nowhere to hide in a beer like this, super well executed, overall the pfriem lager game has been absurdly on point, amazing! light but not that light, yellow to light golden honey colored, nice shine, lots of bubbles, a slightly better than average white head, airy and with good retention. smells fully german, the pils malt its based on, the lager yeast, and even the water chemistry, always such high attention to detail here, although ive not heard of a schankbier as a style, thought i knew them all, perhaps its just a beer name, but i suspect the former, cool effort either way, rad for the hot weather they have been having here. floral hops up front, dry crackery german grain, nice mineral profile grounding it, some grassy bitterness through most of it, some breadiness from the yeast, refined simplicity at its finest, trace citrus, a super lively and almost overexcited mouthfeel which i love for a beer like this, and lets talk about abv for a second, we need more at this level in the states, euro phenomenon or not, this is where its at in high summer, drink a dozen beers and be fine, why isnt that more fashionable. credit to these guys for trying something offbeat and nailing it. super tasty lager, approachable as they come, super dialed!
