awesome beer, a neat get for these guys, on tap at the source, bitburger collaboration, hoppy, german, delicious! blonde to honey colored, pretty clear, and with a gorgeous airy white head north of an inch tall, looks fantastic. this is so full of character, a foot in the old world and the other in the new, classic bitburger lager character, but also i think this is a better beer than bitburger is, a testament to what pfriem was able to do here, and while its hoppy, its not aggressive, to me maybe about as bitter as their normal west coast pils, but without the oily danky true west coasty character, this is cleaner and tighter, more grain forward too, and probably will appeal to a slightly wider audience. slightly nutty on the malt side to my senses, still dry, but with that german dustiness as well, water chemistry seems appropriate, and the yeast does have a little fruitiness that brings up the hops, almost kolsch-like, especially in the nose. underripe green melon, mellow pineapple candy, grape leaf, and tea even, very pleasant, neat movement throughout, cool contribution from all the elements, just very thoughtful and professional beer all around, a delight with their chilled mussels on the patio in high summer, but a beer that i could see playing well with a ton of different cuisine. i know they have a huge lineup of lagers, but this could work as a year round brew as well. downright fantastic, true collaboration, loved it!
