New Zealand’s Nelson Sauvin hops have much in common with the Sauvignon Blanc grapes harvested nearby. Compare a glass of the wine to pFriem Nelson Pale and you’ll see that both boast strong fruity flavors with aromas of honeydew, kiwi, and pineapple. You may even taste hints of citrus and white wine in your pint. But don’t worry—you can leave your corkscrew at home.

TASTING NOTES
This strong pale ale pours a glistening spun gold with a white tuft of foam. Pungent and fruity aromas of honeydew, kiwi, white peach and pineapple candies abound. Big tropical juicy flavors of green mango, grapefruit, tangerine and white wine lead to a piney, citrusy, and vibrant finish.

Pours from the can true to form. Nelson on the nose, Nelson on the sip. Light and breezy with the hop presence coming across on the back of the sip. As expected, it’s a good one.

Look: Light yellow and nearly clear and my gluggy pour initiates a booming head to form and slowly settle to a pillow

Aroma: Kiwi, strawberry, white table grapes, Cannabis, wafts of pineapple, melon, and gooseberries

Taste: Kicks off with a boatload of any and everything grape – fresh grapes, juice, and hints of white wine – that are quickly followed by melon and kiwi. Sugar-dusted strawberries and pineapple come next as some dank and gooseberries make cameos throughout and closes with more grapes and kiwi

Mouthfeel: Full but light, clean, medium-high carbonation, and clean and smooth on the finish

Overall: This is some good stuff. As both a pFriem and Nelson hops fan, I had to try this when I heard it was out and it didn’t disappoint. The Nelson’s profile is on full display throughout and in a well-made APA package that really comes together nicely and accentuates the flavor/aroma subtleties. Recommended

Clear amber brew with ample foam in the Chimay chalice. Sudsy on the tongue. Slightly sweet with a honeydew tang. The usual green melon taste and aroma is mixed up with some resiny notes. Also ripe dark grapes. Overall this is thoroughly pleasant, flavorful, and another reason to just try everything that pFriem makes. From the 16 oz can purchased at the beer store. Dated 9/14/24.

16oz can from Homebrewstuff. Clear golden pour, small foamy white cap recedes to ring. Aroma is fruity, citrus with light pine notes. Taste is white grapes, fruity and dry. Finishes pretty quickly, leaving nothing behind.

its insane how many good beers these guys make, like literally all of them, and this is a great pale, flavorful and clean, packed with nelson, new school, blonde but balanced, a touch catty like mosaic can sometimes be actually, but also a killer expression of nelson, intense like an ipa but without the bitterness, impressive refinement and overall quality, i could drink this all night. golden and light, clearish, frothy white headed, active carbonation the whole way, neutral ferment in nose and taste so simplicity is really the order of the day. these hops have been lauded for their sauvignon blanc qualities, and i think that is pretty evident in this, definitely white winey, floral and springy, herbaceous and lush, juicy without being cloying, tropical with subtle white peach, mango, and pineapple character too, clover in bloom, clean minerality, just awesome, and nice with the simple grain profile in this, real tidy, so fresh in the nose and even more dramatic in the flavor because it starts early and strays pungent the whole way, like this brings a lot more flavor and length than most pale types, faint sulfur and the catty thing as it warms, but its just thiol packed and real full spectrum, super bright, less than middle of the road bitterness, some almost brassy grain on the back end that balances it well and adds some structure in an appealing way, nice and bubbly and refreshing, warms up nicely, rather complex and its all from this botanical, trace coconut and green table grape late, love the lower alcohol, this is fabulous, hope they keep it around!

From a 16oz can canned on 9/19/24

This beer is a fairly clear looking beer in the glass. It is a nice golden color. Tons of carbonation rising in the glass to produce a 1 finger white head. The head retention is pretty good and lots of sticky looking lacing on the glass.
The aroma is a hop aroma with a hint of pine to it.
Taste - The flavor is also dominated by the hop used. I get some pine hints in here. I get some hints of sweetness on the back and there's also a good bitterness on the back.
The body is somewhat bubbly. It is nice and full feeling. Smooth and the bitterness does cling in my throat.
This is quite delicious and a pleasure to try.

L - crystal clear WC pale ale, gorgeous, good head.
S - fantastic white grape, dank fruit, pith, white peach aromas
T - more of the same, Welch's white grape, but with bitter pith underbite. Nice.
F - great balance, tastes "bigger" and richer than the 5.9% - deftly made.
O - one of my favorite pale ales in a LONG time.

Clear pretty pour, a finger of head. Lots a aroma on this one, tropical fruit, some pine, a hint of dankness.
Hops and bitterness are right in line with a classic Pale Ale balance. We get plenty of tropical fruit flavors from the Nelson Sauvin hops, complemented with a base of tasty malt.

A very tasty APA. Get 'em while you can.

Clear, golden body; good carbonation; 1 1/2 finger thick head, white, lasting. Cracker malt; a bit musty; herbal notes. Toasted cracker flavor with a light tropical fruit undercurrent; hint of white grape must; light, peppery quality; moderate hop bitterness bite. Medium body; nice residual sugar density, mildly viscous; upfront juicy character, finishes with a delicate dryness.

While the expected Nelson Sauvin flavor wasn't as prominent as I would have expected, this is a nice, thirst-quenching pale ale. Balanced and refreshing.
