Look: Liquid that is as dark as night glugs sloppily from my pour and into the glass, where it is followed by a lush-looking khaki head that retains well
Aroma: Roasted barley, freshly baked and toasted bread, brewed coffee, bakers cocoa, dark caramel, and earthy and spicy hops
Taste: Opens up with a rush of cocoa and dark caramel that barely settle in before being hit with some big-time spicy and earthy hops. Layers of bread pile on next, along with roast and coffee, and these go back and forth with cocoa and caramel, while hops continually swat back the malt, before closing out with cocoa and bread
Mouthfeel: Full, smooth, clean, nicely carbonated, and clean and robust on the finish with some noticeable dryness
Overall: Wait, pFriem made a Stout?! This is an awesome beer and one I had to try and after pondering it for a minute, realized that outside of their barrel-aged and specialty ones, they haven’t packaged a standard “dark beer.” Unsurprisingly, it’s super tasty and well-made, bringing the Export Stout to life with tons of malt, plenty of hops, and a big ABV to boot. Definitely worth a buy if you see it

Big foamy head on a dark brown body, unfiltered. Nose is cocoa, toasted bread, toffee, and a hint of spice. Taste leans into roasted malt; burnt sugar, dark cocoa, toffee, bread crust, and an oaky, hoppy spice with the finish. Moderate carbonation, with a finish that isn’t quite dry.
A bit brighter and more complex than I’d expect with this style. That bit of spicy bite is a nice touch.

16oz can at Hops & Bottles. Dark brown pour, soft, filmy beige head, rings of lacing all the way down. Light roasty aroma, woody notes. Taste introduces chocolate, mild sweetness and some barely there fruity character. Nailed the style!

16-ounce can purchased at the Safeway in Tanasbourne Village shopping center in Hillsboro, OR. Date stamp reads “PKG 01/22/26”. Enjoyed in a nonic half-pint glass.
Look:
The body is a deep rust brown with exquisite mahogany highlights. The head of dense, cream-colored foam wanes to a heavy collar and thick skin that lasts to the bottom of the glass and dispenses ample lacing.
Smell:
The nose is rich with roasted malts and a restrained, pleasant sweetness. It displays notes of toasted brown bread, coffee, and brown sugar, along with a sharp earthy bitterness.
Taste:
Roasted malts dominate the flavor, offering bitterness, burnt grains, and a pinch of acidity which offsets a stronger sweetness than the nose promised. There’s dark chocolate, caramel cream, a pinch of licorice, and a morsel of raisin through the middle, followed by molasses, coffee, and more dark chocolate in the finish.
Feel:
Medium-bodied and chewy with aggressive carbonation.
Overall:
Brash at the start, this beer benefits from a bit of a time out between the pour and the sip. Let it warm up and lose some carbonation and it is a much more pleasant drink.
