This super light West Coast IPA is an ode to a trinity of the great hop varietals of the Pacific Northwest: Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe. Utilizing both hop pellets and advanced hop products, Trinity features notes of orange peel and lemon zest, with complementary hints of passionfruit, pineapple, and pine, all while finishing expressive and ultra clean.

Initial Impression:
I finally added Trinity to the review system, which is always exciting—there’s something satisfying about logging a new beer. Thus far, the IPAs from pFriem Family Brewers have been consistently excellent, and seeing Simcoe, Mosaic, and Citra on the hop bill immediately raised expectations. Opening the can released a burst of fresh hop aroma that let me know this one meant business.
Appearance:
Served at 46°F in a stemless glass. The pour created an airy, frothy white head about two fingers thick with average retention. Slow-to-moderate dissipation left a light amount of lacing behind. The beer pours pale amber with light golden hues (SRM ~8), slightly hazy and visually attractive for a modern West Coast IPA.
Aroma:
Hop-forward with a supportive but restrained malt backbone. Tangerine rind, mango, lychee, peach, pineapple, strawberry, and honeysuckle dominate the nose, layered with grassy, earthy, and light pine resin notes. The hop expression feels bright and fresh without becoming muddled or overly saturated.
The malt profile contributes light breadiness, soft toast, subtle biscuit, and gentle sweetness, giving the hops structure without pulling focus away from them.
Flavor:
Expressive and impressively balanced. Citrus leads with orange rind, lemon, and grapefruit, followed by layers of mango, peach, pineapple, melon, gooseberry, and subtle tropical sweetness. Pine resin, eucalyptus, grass, jasmine, and light earthiness provide bitterness and complexity without becoming harsh.
The malt character stays intentionally restrained but important, offering bread crust, light toast, and subtle sweetness that help support the hop intensity while keeping the finish crisp and drinkable. The interplay between citrus brightness, tropical fruit, and resinous bitterness is particularly well executed.
Mouthfeel:
Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly astringent with a crisp, tannic finish characteristic of a hop-forward West Coast IPA. Firm enough to reinforce the bitterness without becoming abrasive.
Overall Impression:
Trinity is another fantastic IPA from pFriem and a great showcase of modern West Coast hopping. The beer delivers layered hop intensity and firm bitterness without wrecking the palate or collapsing into hop soup.
What stands out most is the restraint and precision in the hop blending—no single hop dominates, and the profile stays cohesive from start to finish. Fresh, expressive, and incredibly drinkable, this is exactly the kind of West Coast IPA I want to keep stocked in the fridge whenever possible.
