Dark brown and clear, with one and a half inches of light chestnut foam. The head holds for a while before leaving modest lacing on a pint glass.
Roasted nuts and caramel are mild against wheat bread.
The flavor is well balanced between bitterness and sweetness and follows the nose. Wheat bread is stronger than the nuts, and warmth brings out toasted malt. The finish is long and neutral.
It has a soft textured, medium body with alcohol as expected. Dryness is exaggerated by the light, fizzy carbonation.
I enjoyed this on a pleasant evening while watching heat lightening over Otsego Lake. This was a great weekend getaway.

Poured into a mug, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a light transparency about it. Some red hues along the sides. Thin cap of a little white head, some sliding lace. The aroma had some soft sweet to roasty nuts, nice smooth caramel/toffee malts, and some smooth sweet milk chocolate. Slight grassiness at the end. The flavor blended fairly nice between all of the previously mentioned aromas. Slight smooth pleasant aftertaste of the same. Finished pretty smooth too. The palate was just a touch below medium bodied with a fairly nice sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good. Overall, pretty good brown ale that I would have again.

The darker side of brown ale here, with more barley roast and char character than the usual chocolate malt. Some hops in here too, a well crafted and sturdy brown ale that is perfect for the upstate NY fall season. Fiery roasty malt base, letting just a bit if light through, and a ran frothy head with excellent retention. The smell and taste are the same, with dark malt taking on a toasted nut character, and bittering hops combining with unsalted dark barley in the finish. Mild ale yeast here dries it out enough, but the big creamy body lingers just a bit on the palate, perfect for cool weather sipping, and at just 5% abv, I can sip on these for some time. A real distinct and sturdy brown, very good on the whole.

Pours a rich, deep brown, almost a burnt umber, but with the slightest cast of red. The off-white head is a cap of tight, tiny bubbles, briefly forming anew when the beer is swished in the glass (a small tulip from Weyberbacher). There's a nice, viscous lacing effect as the foam slides down the sides of the vessel. The nose is chocolate and malt, as is the flavor, which culminates in a well-done, subtle, breathy bitterness. There's a standout grain or herb aspect to the taste, which is pleasant and slightly savory, that I can't definitely identify. Creamy mouthfeel. Though it seems to have a published ABV of 5.0, the blackboard at the brewery listed it at a much heftier 6.8. Refreshing and quaffable, but it has legs.
