Description at Belmont Station: Northwest Style Wit featuring Meridian hops which deliver a brightly citrus and refreshing mimosa-like character. 453 mL pint.
Appearance- Pours up about two fingers of the most pure cotton white head that I've ever seen- the retention is insane. I honestly did not wait for it to dissipate, it had that much linger to it. The body is a hazy grapefruit color that fades near the bottom of the glass turning into a weak lemonish white. Considerable lacing.
Nose- Very subtle but still quite enjoyable. Light lemon, some spice notes, specifically coriander. Faint hints of perfume and flowers. After some time, all of this fades and the aroma is rather bland.
Taste- Very reflective of the nose but with a little bit more presence. Lemon and lemon peel are the initial notes with a slight resinous bitterness on the finish. This is accompanied by notes of grass, herbs, and earth. Pretty dry finish compliments the light bitter finish. Some orange and orange rind come out after subsequent tastes. Some coriander as well. Very well balanced with lots of subtlety. Very light hints of banana and clove. Mimosa-like is an apt descriptor. I would like it if there were more of a perfume and floral character to this beer; I think that it would work well with the dry finish.
Mouthfeel- Light bodied with a good amount of carbonation. The almost exquisite dry finish gives this beer a lot of structure.
Drinkability- Very easygoing. Crisp and refreshing. Perfect summer beer. 4.50 for a pint seems reasonable. They usually run about that to 5 bucks in the “bottle”- their bottles are aluminum (or some kind of metal).
Overall- Above average. Fairly good representation of a style that is at the lower end of styles I appreciate. It's definitely worth a try but it seems to be missing something. A must try for those who enjoy wibiers.
