A 500ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2018. Picked up a while back from Morrisons. Described on the label as a pale ale brewed with a nod to the American craft beer movement. Hopped with Eldorado, Nugget and Calypso for big flavours.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A deep amber colour with faint haze and modest carbonation. Forms a decent head of creamy white foam that lasts for a moment or so before subsiding to a patchy surface layer and then dissipating. Slight lacing.
S: Aroma of mild leafy hops with hints of grass/hay, faint herbs, light caramel malt, subtle grain and ale yeast. OK but rather bland. Where are the US hops the label promised?
T: Tastes of leafy hops with notes of grass/hay, subtle herbs, mild caramel malt, grain, ale yeast and stewed husks. Slightly sweet, followed by a moderate leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, lightly tingly and dry, with soft carbonation and decent body. Mildly astringent. Aftertaste of leafy hops, grass, pale malt and ale yeast.
O: Underwhelming. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are a relatively dull blend of leafy hops, grainy malt and ale yeast. Body is alright. This would be a decent enough pale ale on its own terms, but it underdelivers on the hop character promised by the label. More UK traditional than US craft. Drinkable but no need to seek it out.
