Deep clear ruby pour. Light tan giant head. Thick lacing.
Nose is bready malt and some hops.
Taste is surprising to me. Delicious sweet (candied) malts m, caramel, some molasses (nothing near cloying) backed by a distinct hoppy bite. I’m immediately also struck by the delectably creamy mouthfeel, with low carbonation. After sitting a bit it becomes nice and chewy, barely sticky.
I’m sure this has characteristics of most big red ales, however I’m recently into this style big time and trying to find tasty new examples. After searching for a couple I heard were good to no avail (by Avery and/ or Oskar Blues), my eye caught these 4-packs atop some cases of Community’s other stock at the better local bottle retailer and decided to grab even though I’m not a fan of the movie franchise that inspired it. Decent local double red.
