Lion’s Share X from Lakewood Brewing. Two boxed 12 fl oz bottles, picked up at Spec’s on DeZavala, SAT, 06/11/24, $ 17.11 (Including tax), $ 0.71/fl oz. Reviewed 13/11/24 (Review 3393). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
On label “2012 2022 10th ANNIVERSARY EDITION”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 47.4 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 54.3 degrees F.
Appearance – 3.5
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), hazy.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, translucent chocolate brown, cloudy.
Head: Small (Maximum 0.8 cm, aggressive center pour), almond, high density. Quickly collapsing to a 0.2 – 0.3 cm crown and a thin, partial cap.
Lacing – Fair. A few dunes of tiny bubbles.
Aroma – 3.25 – Initial burst of vinous followed by weak raisins - no yeast, no hops, no malt, no distinct barrel. No ethanol (11 % ABV according to the label).
Flavor – 3.5 – Follows the nose – a little raisin and possibly, fig – distinctly no date. No yeast, no hops. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Eventually, gentle gastric warming.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium; almost creamy; soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines, as loosely condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 The hidden ethanol is a plus; otherwise, the gentler dark fruit flavors would be submerged. This grows on me as it continues to warm – I may pick up a couple more boxes for future drinking.

Purchased the two bottle package last week. The idea is that you drink one bottle now and set the other back for a later time. This review is for the first bottle.
Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Clear dark brown color with a nice persistent beige head an good curtain lacing. Smell and taste of fig preserves and dark raisins. Some chocolate notes and a bit of licorice. Some hazelnut and caramel as it warms. A bit thin for the style. I will hold the second bottle for a year or so and see what happens!
