On draft in a hotel bar in Ocean City. It's early February. I like the beach in winter.
The few hotel guests have vamoosed, and the bar is populated by off-duty hotel staff drinking Bud and Busch Light. They complain of aches and pains. I have those too, but assume theirs are worse. They look old. Turns out they're all younger than me. I'm really reviewing this $8 glass of beer? Yeah, I guess I am.
Beer arrives in a shaker pint. Color is a reddish copper, which made me wonder if they crossed the lines with an amber. Head is a thin layer of beige foam, though the bartender was careful to pour it full to the brim. Smell is mostly sweet caramel malts. But no, after an initial hit of malty sweetness, I taste the slightly lemony wheat. Bready yeast follows. Wheat is definitely downplayed, flavor-wise. Feel is a substantial medium that works well with the flavor profile. This is a good beer, though sweeter and maltier than most wheats.
While I drink, one by one the others in the bar go outside to smoke. After I'm done, I go out to look at the phosphorescent curls of the waves in the dark. I'm ready for the sound of the surf to lull me to sleep.

Served in a 22 ounce white plastic cup. $3.00. Add to that the atmosphere of eating blue crab claws on a fake boat with the temperature in the 80's and I am dying to give this beer straight 5s.
a: Typical stadium pour. To the top, minimal head. The gigantic orange wedge added some charm. This beer was a rusty, copper orange.
s: Orange and citrus peel up front with wafts of caramel. There was a definite sweetness in the smell.
t: Very sweet with orange and caramel. Underlying the sweetness was delicate wheat and a hit of spice and clove.
mf: A bit heavy for a wheat and low in carbonation but very refreshing and drinkable.
o: I am to understand that this wheat beer was brewed especially for Sneaky Pete's in Ocean City, Md. and it matches perfectly with their food and atmosphere. World class? No. But casual and fun and brewed with integrity, it is the perfect beer to get at the restaurant on a hot day with broiled crab cakes and fries.

12 oz bottle into a wine glass.
Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy golden color. The head is a finger high, and white in shade. Retention isn't very good, nor is the craggy texture. However, a consistent ring of lacing is left behind. (3.25)
Smell: There's a nice touch of candied sugar - similar to Blue Moon, but more balanced and superior in quality. I'm also picking up nice orange peel notes, with just a kiss of coriander. It's caught somewhere between a witbier and a plain wheat ale aromatically; hell, there are even hefeweizen hints too. It works decently. (3.25)
Taste: The flavor profile is simple: orange peel, candied sugar, wheat, and a faint kiss of coriander. Now that I properly focus on it, it seems to take on hefeweizen elements as well - the yeast seems to give off slight banana esters. Overall, it's caught between hefeweizen, witbier, and plain wheat ale territory. While it's a bit confused tasting (that, and the wheat notes are faintly tomato-y at times), it's still enjoyable enough. (3.25)
Mouthfeel: The feel is a bit heavier than it needs to be, nor is it that dry or crisp. Carbonation is fairly vibrant, at least. (2.75)
Overall: This seems like it's trying to do too many things at once; as a result, it doesn't really do anything spectacularly well. On the plus side, it's respectably complex (if not entirely cohesive). A decent wheat ale, no more, no less. (3.25)
3.2/5: Not bad at all, just not my first choice in the style
