for me this is without question the best beer these guys make. i love it. all the same flavor density as the regular pils, but it isnt filtered, and in a lager, that helps bring some of the textural density to match up with the flavor, and its awesome. served in a big dimpled mug, it has just a little haze to it and a full inch of lingering white head, lacy and sexy, that hangs around rather well. nose of hops, amazing how hoppy this is for the style, saaz maybe, or something similar, its very authentic but quite vegetal and bitter at the same time. the malt is fresh but equally sturdy. dry cereal and baked bread, yeasty in a sort of ale and lager hybrid sense too, dynamic to say the least. for how much is going on here, in a usually easy going style, its also real drinkable. i like a fuller feel in the style, and the carbonation and dry finish are on point. one of the best pils types i have had from anywhere, including the old world. lager brewers take a clue here. this kills it, i wish they would bottle it instead of their more refined normal pils. several gallons of this seems like the right dosage. impressive how the lack of filtration transforms the base beer so much, i love this.
edit: they appear to be canning this now, which rules, as good as it ever was, so frothy and airy and flavorful as these go, one of their best beers for sure!

Smack on for the style, love this stuff. Spent a few years living in Bamberg and Kellerbier was always a go to, usually St. GeorgenBräu from nearby Buttenheim. I should probably give this beer 5's but it's just so hard to do that. Silly boy...

A half mass at the brewery on 12/9/14. Golden and hazy, pours with a healthy head and plenty of lace. Bready, yeasty aroma. Solid body start to finish. Not as clean as their pils, but a bit more interesting. Good balance between the earthy/floral hops and the malt. Medium low bitterness. Not completely dry, there's a touch of sweetness, but close.
