Barley Wine - from Brauhaus Binkert. 330 mL bottle purchased from the Die Bierothek, 20/06/24, Price unknown. Reviewed 23/06/24 (Review 3304). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Front label dated “31 12 2025”. Stored on room temperature shelf at Bierothek, then room reefer at hotel (cold as it would go!). Served at 64.8 degrees F in a hotel-supplied glass. The final temperature was 75.9 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Deep Amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), clear. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, ruby, and clear.
Head – Average (Maximum 0.8 cm, aggressive center pour), bone, high density, poor retention, leaving a 0.2 cm crown and thin partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 – Malty and sweet. No yeast, no malt, no alcohol (8.5 % ABV, according to the label).
Flavor – 3.5 – Malty and sweet. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Full; almost syrupy; soft carbonation.
Final Impression and summation: 4 Surprised at the lack of gastric warming considering the ABV – sweet.
