This brewery blew me away! The brewer and one of the bartenders not only helped me make a flight just for my taste, but kept bringing me more tasters to try-- even beers that were not yet on tap. The service AND the beer were top notch. This is certainly a place for hop lovers who love various IPAs, blondes, and warm stouts. I highly recommend this brewery!

this is a neat spot tucked into a new development there, part of/adjacent to a small distilling operation as well. very montana vibe in here, wooden features, decor that looks reclaimed from an old gas station or auto body shop, a cool two sided bar with a huge old saw blade inlaid, really cool. smaller beer menu here, just a handful of selections, and the bartender seemed either uninformed or uninterested in assisting us. the ipa was quite good, juicy and easy to drink. they also had a white peach brew that was tasty. both seemed a little flat, somewhat amateurish, but like nice recipes in general. it has a very comfortable vibe, great spot to pass a few hours. of the local breweries in bozeman though, their beer was some of the least remarkable overall, not to say it was bad, just that i never had one that really stood out. that doesnt mean i wouldnt recommend it, its a great space and easy to get to. cool there is so much beer happening in this little montana city right now! these guys certainly seem to have the respect and admiration of the locals...

(#8 of 49) This brewery is located on the edge of town in a small strip setting. We stopped here to try the beers and to have dinner. The building appears to be attached to a 3-story industrial building that has been re-purposed into retail and offices. The interior finishes have a quasi-industrial look which I enjoy seeing in a brewpub setting. The brewing equipment was visible behind some windows.
We ordered a sampler flight of 7 beers to evaluate this brewery. All of them exceeded the taste for their style, but none were placed into a notable category as a stand-out. We gave an overall score of a B- grade to them.
The food here is pretty much pub grub, but it was very good. The service was also very good, although the place was not very busy. There is some connection by this brewery to a Wild Rye Distillery, although my notes from this visit do not provide any detail. I don't believe that the liquor was being served here.

I don't quite understand xuptygm's rating. This user complains about the selection at 406, but has only been to the establishment twice? I would take their opinion with a grain of salt.
I go to the 406 an average of twice a month. The men behind the brew are the type who like to play around with seasonal variations of ingredients. The reason why xuptygm saw a selection of IPAs the second time they went was probably because it was following hop harvest in the late summer/early fall. Yes, they grow their own hops.
You won't see a single "standard" beer on the menu at 406. Every month or two will have a completely new, unique selection that is composed of ingredients specific to the season and fresh access. A poor selection is the farthest thing from describing the 406.
This is a top-notch brewery. I hope they stick around for a long, long time.

Nice atmosphere, but the beer selection was quite limited. I have been there twice. The first time they had five beers on tap, all of good quality. The second time they had four beers on tap- all of which were IPA's (or variations of an IPA). I like IPA's as a style, but come on spice it up! If you aren't from Montana you should know you are limited to three beers at breweries and they stop serving at 8 pm. Overall, a nice brewery with good beer at reasonable prices, but selection has been very limited in my experience.
