Pours a light black color with a small tan head. Smell was roasted malt with chocolate. Taste was chocolate and roasted malts. Mouth feel was this but had a soft texture. Average at best.

On tap at the brewery in Port Allen, Kaua'i. More dark brown than black. Roasty porter smell. Thin body and a slight smokiness that I did not care for. I usually love porters but I did not love this. My wife did like it though.

Poured on tap into a 5.5 oz sampler glass at the brewery/grill.
Deep black walnut body with a great changing hue along the edges of red almost like cherry wood. A simple even tan collar rounds out the top, very nice looking beer.
Classic porter nose here, with a chewy grain, very soft and just ripping roast which is soft. There is a very large milk chocolate presence.
Palate delivers the goods if a bit chaotic. Huge coffee aromas on a very light body which really come out more like decent drip coffee. Lingering hits of lime like hop and crackling roast character on the aftertaste, through a slight hint of soda fizz light body. Not so much chocolate notes as hinted from the nose.
The porter classic flavors are all here but they don't seem to gel a bit and fight with each other. Slightly unbalanced, but this will please any porter fan, easily one of the better beers they make in their lineup.

I enjoyed a couple of pints of the Pakala Porter while visiting the brewpub yesterday for dinner for the happy hour price of $4 per pint. Reviewed from notes.
Beer served black as night with an off white head that disapated pretty quickly.
Nose had some roasted malt and a hint of sweetness.
Taste was very flavorful. There was a roasted malt backbone with a nice compliment of chocolate malt flavoring. There was enough hopping to keep this in balance and not too sweet.
Mouthfeel was light to medium bodied and somewhat smooth.
Overall this is a solid beer. I really appreciate it when a brewer can make a small abv brew that is packed with flavor. This is very similar to the Odell Cutthroat Porter. My hats off to Brewer Dave!
