i thought this was an excellent tripel (it is not in fact a belgian pale, as listed here, but a belgian tripel). the packaging on this is beautiful too, really cool and artsy, geometric, something about nice packaging makes me want to get into a beer even more, sucker for marketing maybe. this is pretty classic, golden and not quite all the way clear on the pour with a tall rising white head, looks belgian alright, just gorgeous. aroma is yeast first, with a spice element to it that i find really attractive, a dried herb profile too, grass and tea sort of, with a bunch of fruity tones too, white grape, peach, dried apricot, marmalade, really enticing over the honey sweet malt base, cant wait to taste. the flavor isnt quite as pronounced as the aroma, which is mostly because the yeast profile is a little more tame, more classically belgian here, right on for the style, fully evolved and in balance, just not quite as ripe fruity and estery as it smells like it well be, still awesome. the malt is more substantial than it smells like, so somewhat of a flip from the aroma, with a definite sweetness to it thats balanced by alcohol and spice notes from the yeast in the finish. good body for the style, excellent carbonation, and just a really high quality glass of beer. good enough to have come from belgium!
